If you’re looking to lose weight fast the chances are that you’re heading for disappointment. There are a whole lot of lose weight fast programs that people buy into but the chances are that this approach will fail.
Why You Shouldn’t Lose Weight Quickly
While it is possible to lose weight overnight, it’s really a question of how much fat your body can burn. If you go on an extreme diet this actually signals the body to store fat as it thinks that food is scarce. This can actually lead you to gain weight when you eat as your body attempts to hold onto calories.
Short term diets are prone to failure because they are not sustainable in the long term. While you may indeed lose weight in the short term, in the long run you will most likely gain it back and even put on weight.
Quick Weight Loss = Failure
Many diets and dieting products make amazing claims and quote scientific research. These diets and dieting products are supposedly breakthroughs and promise to deliver superb results. The ads feature slim looking people who have lost weight and got into shape. The problem is that no two people have the same metabolism. Different bodies react differently. So anything promising results should be taken with a grain of salt. These ads often show “results not typical” or other message at the bottom of the screen in small hardly readable text.
The “quick” word is a proven phrase to make you to hand over your money. Many diet supplements are actually hunger suppressants. Now, why on earth would you pay someone for making you not want to eat? The body needs food. If it didn’t we wouldn’t eat. The reason 99% of people gain too much weight is that they eat too much and they eat the wrong types of food.
Why would anyone want to starve the body of the nutrients that it needs to be healthy? The reason why the “fast” and the “quick” word needs better qualifying is this. All the energy that the body does not need, we know, is stored in the body as fat. Now fat is important (too much of it is not but that is another story). The fat in us is stored so that when the body runs out of fuel, it will draw from this storehouse of energy to keep it going for a long time but only when the energy stored in the muscles are depleted.
But that is precisely the point. When we the body undergoes a weight loss program, the body reacts by storing as much energy that it could. It will recognize the lack of nutrients much similar to how we recognize that a food shortage is about to happen. Like us also it will store and conserve all the energy that it possibly could for future use. Like us, it will be very stingy in releasing the energy, releasing only as far as we would need to function. And that is exactly what happens. The body will first take out as much water from the cells. Next it uses the muscle for fuel. Then and only then will it use the fat that has been stored to enable you to survive. As the good book said, we are beautifully and wonderfully made, why tinker with that?
How Should You Lose Weight Then?
Control what you eat and exercise. That’s it. Pure and simple. No catchy keywords or fake promises. No need to hand over your hard earned money. If you want to lose weight and keep it off then simply eat less and exercise more. Everyone burns a certain amount of calories per day. If you consume more in calories than you burn off during the day you gain weight. So to lose weight you reduce your calories and increase the amount of calories you burn by exercising or keeping active. In theory you don’t even have to exercise. You could just lower your calorie intake to less than you are burning by sitting around. But it makes sense to exercise because that way you are staying healthy and boosting your calorie burning.
